Chapter-14
Getting Rich, Getting Rich!!!
In the store.
A nearby sales assistant brought over several pieces of clothing. Pei Nian’an waved her hand dismissively, signaling her to step back. Then she looked at Yu Zhi.
“You’re sure you don’t want these clothes?”
Yu Zhi nodded rapidly, then suddenly had a flash of inspiration.
“Pei-jie, let me guess—today isn’t the first time you’ve gone on a shopping spree, right? You have so many clothes; can you even wear them all?”
Pei Nian’an winced at the reminder and rubbed her temples.
“Oh, right. You just reminded me—my three walk-in closets are already bursting. If my brother finds out I’ve been buying more, he’s going to yell at me again…”
As she sighed, she pulled out her phone.
“Wait a sec, I’ll have my butler throw out all the old clothes and bags I don’t use anymore…”
“Don’t, Pei-jie!” Yu Zhi cried, grabbing her phone with both hands, eyes shining.
“Don’t make your butler throw them away! Let me do it for you!”
She thumped her chest earnestly. “I promise I’ll clean everything up perfectly. I’ll take care of all the clothes and bags you don’t want—no need to trouble your butler!”
Pei Nian’an blinked at her sudden enthusiasm and pulled her hand back, suspicious.
“What’s with you? Why so excited?”
Yu Zhi rubbed her hands together, grinning obsequiously.
“I just want to help Pei-jie lighten her load!”
“Besides,” she added slyly, “your clothes must be top quality. It’d be such a waste to just throw them away. Let me sell them secondhand, okay?”
Pei Nian’an couldn’t help laughing.
Actually—she was laughing because she was rich enough to be amused by poor people’s antics.
She crossed her legs elegantly. “Sure. Come to my house and clean it up right now.”
Then she paused. “But…”
“But what?” Yu Zhi swallowed nervously.
“You have to help me find a way to get back at someone.”
“Deal!” Yu Zhi agreed instantly.
With a grand gesture, Pei Nian’an sent Yu Zhi 20,000 yuan on WeChat.
Yu Zhi blinked in shock. “Pei-jie, what’s this 20,000 yuan for…?”
Pei Nian’an waved it off. “Just take it. Consider it payment for helping me clean up.”
Yu Zhi’s grin nearly split her face.
That was a real, tangible 20,000 yuan!
And with the tenfold system reward—she’d be pocketing 200,000!
Dear heavens, please slow down time! Don’t let me graduate yet!
Yu Zhi suddenly remembered a movie line and, eyes misty, looked at Pei Nian’an and cried out dramatically:
“Pei-jie, how could I live without you!”
Pei Nian’an gave her a baffled look, then lifted her chin gracefully.
“Come on, accompany this princess home.”
Yu Zhi instantly straightened up. “At once, Your Highness!”
They walked out of the mall, where a sleek black luxury car was already waiting at the entrance.
The uniformed driver stepped forward respectfully. “Miss.”
Pei Nian’an got in the car, while Yu Zhi helped the driver load up all the shopping bags into the trunk.
Standing by the car, Yu Zhi suddenly felt a strange empathy for those elderly folks she’d seen in news stories who, for various reasons, had secretly climbed into car trunks.
Honestly, she thought, sitting in the trunk doesn’t sound half bad.
“Yu Zhi, what are you standing there for? Get in!” Pei Nian’an called from inside.
Yu Zhi snapped out of it and quickly got in.
Five years of working life, she thought bitterly, and I’ve developed a servant’s instinct—my first reaction to a luxury car isn’t ‘I’m going to ride it,’ but ‘I should sit in the trunk!’
Inside the car, Yu Zhi couldn’t help exclaiming as she ran her hand over the leather seats. “Wow… this feels completely different from a normal car.”
Pei Nian’an glanced at her. “And what’s a ‘normal car’?”
Yu Zhi: “…”
Good question. Don’t ask it again.
The car rolled into a large suburban estate. Ornate gates swung open automatically, a fountain sparkled in the setting sun, and a gardener trimmed hedges in the distance.
“Miss, we’ve arrived,” the driver said as he opened the door respectfully.
Pei Nian’an stepped out lazily.
Yu Zhi followed—and when she saw the palace-like mansion before her, she couldn’t help gasping.
“Pei-jie, this is your house? You actually live here?”
“Mm-hmm.” Pei Nian’an yawned elegantly and cast her a sidelong glance.
“What’s so shocking? This is my smallest house. If it weren’t close to school, I wouldn’t even live here.”
Yu Zhi’s mouth twitched. She looked up at the three-story European-style villa and screamed internally:
Comparing people really does kill you inside!
The system suddenly chimed in:
【Calm down.】
【As long as you keep up the bootlicking and pay off your debt, this kind of life will be yours someday.】
Yu Zhi: Fine. I’ll take that dream—you’ve sold me the fantasy!
They crossed the courtyard and entered a lavishly decorated living room.
A row of maids stood neatly to greet them. “Welcome home, Miss.”
Pei Nian’an collapsed onto a leather sofa. “Ugh, school is exhausting…”
Before she even finished the sentence, one maid came forward with warm tea, while another expertly began massaging her shoulders.
Yu Zhi stood aside, feeling like a field mouse that had wandered into a royal palace. Inside, she was screaming:
AHHH!!!
Honestly, she realized, Pei Nian’an wasn’t being dramatic—this young lady’s greatest hardship in life really was Wen Ying!
After some rest, Pei Nian’an took Yu Zhi upstairs—by elevator, no less.
Yes. An elevator to the second floor. Yu Zhi’s “wow” reflex was already numb.
A maid opened a pair of grand French doors. Pei Nian’an gestured casually.
“Come in. This whole floor’s mine. That side’s my bedroom, and the rest are my closets.”
Stepping onto the plush carpet, Yu Zhi nearly went blind from the sparkle.
The left wall was a transparent display of long dresses, the other side was short tops and skirts, and along the right were glass cases filled with handbags and shoes. In the center stood a rotating platform showcasing jewelry.
With the lighting hitting just right, it looked like a high-end boutique.
“Holy crap…” Yu Zhi muttered. Those were the only words that could describe what she was seeing.
Pei Nian’an frowned at the crowded closet. “Ugh, so annoying. There’s no room for my new stuff.”
She waved a hand. “Just throw out whatever you want. I just need the space cleared.”
“Throw out whatever?” Yu Zhi’s voice cracked as she pointed to a gown that looked ridiculously expensive. “Even this one?”
“Throw it.”
“This bag?” She picked up a chain bag with a massive designer logo.
“Throw it.”
“What about this—wait, this dress still has the tag on it!”
Pei Nian’an glanced over. “Oh, I bought that last month and forgot to wear it. It’s out of season. Throw it.”
Yu Zhi clutched her chest, her heart pounding.
I’m rich! I’m rich!!!
Pei Nian’an laughed at her excitement. “I’ll have the butler bring you a trash bag. You can start packing.”
Yu Zhi quickly said, “Hold on, Pei-jie—forget the trash bag. Have the butler bring me a few big woven sacks!”
Pei Nian’an blinked. She didn’t even know what a woven sack was, but turned to leave.
“Oh, and don’t touch the innermost cabinet,” she added. “Everything in there are gifts from my brother, Shengnian, since I was a kid.”
Yu Zhi nodded rapidly.
