Chapter 1 – “Banished? Thank You Very Much!”
“I, Prince Marx, hereby declare—Sibel Vias! From this moment on, our engagement is annulled!”
The prince’s sharp voice echoed through the grand hall of the royal palace.
It was in the middle of a party. When I, Sibel, approached His Highness—who was spending time with my stepsister instead of me—he suddenly shouted that with great excitement.
“…Why is that, Your Highness?”
Even though my engagement was being broken off, I tilted my head politely and asked for a reason.
“You began bullying your stepsister, Annika, ever since it was revealed that she is the true saint, didn’t you?”
“Bullying…?”
I looked at my tearful stepsister, who clung pitifully to the prince’s arm, and tried to think back—had something like that ever happened?
When I was six years old, my real mother passed away. The following year, my father remarried. His new wife brought her own daughter—Annika—who was the same age as me.
In this kingdom, a saint is born once every hundred years. It is said that her mere presence brings peace to the land.
Seven years ago, when I was ten, the royal prophet declared that the daughter of Count Vias was the new saint.
Since I was the count’s only official daughter, everyone assumed I was the saint. Because of that, I was chosen as the prince’s fiancée.
But just a few weeks ago, my stepmother suddenly claimed that the real saint was actually her daughter—Annika.
Apparently, I was a fake because I never did anything “saint-like.”
I had never seen it myself, but my stepmother insisted she witnessed Annika using a holy power that only a true saint could wield.
She didn’t tell me what kind of power it was—just that she was afraid I’d try to copy it and lie.
“Don’t play dumb! You pushed her down the stairs and poured wine all over her dress!”
“Oh…”
“There were plenty of witnesses!”
Prince Marx, with his long golden hair tied behind him and striking blue eyes inherited from the king, glared at me as he said this.
Ah, yes. That incident.
It’s true that something like that happened—but the details were rather different.
Annika was the one who bumped into me on the stairs and fell down on her own.
I even grabbed her arm right away, so she didn’t fall far! Surely the witnesses saw that?
As for the wine incident—again, she bumped into me! Some wine splashed from my glass onto her dress, yes, but my dress ended up much dirtier than hers.
“There’s no point in arguing. You’re dangerous. We can’t have someone like you around Saint Annika! Therefore, I hereby exile you to the frontier land of Tori!”
“…Oh my! To Tori?!”
Even though I wasn’t upset about the broken engagement, I couldn’t help but raise my voice at the name.
Oh… could it really be that Tori?!
Tori was a region plagued by dangerous monsters—and currently guarded by the First Knight Order.
“That’s right. You’ll work at the knights’ dormitory. They’re short on hands.”
“My, the knights’ dormitory!?”
Oh… what a dream come true!
“This decision is final. Even if you apologize now, I won’t—”
“Thank you very much!”
“…Huh?”
I almost jumped for joy.
Trying my best to stay composed like a proper count’s daughter, I bowed elegantly and gave my heartfelt thanks to His Highness.
