Chapter 89
“Seriously, Commander Oscar is just too much!”
“No kidding. He doesn’t even really know us, and yet—”
“Well, I don’t think he meant any harm when he said it.”
That evening, after dinner, Leo, Mirko, Yoti, Rick, and I were having tea together in Leo’s room. Before long, the conversation naturally turned to Lord Oscar.
Yoti and Rick still didn’t seem to have cooled off.
Leo must have sensed that and invited them here. In this room, there was no need to worry about anyone overhearing us.
“Your Highness, do you think we’re not suitable to be Sibyl-chan’s guards either!?”
“No, not at all. I truly trust you both.”
“Right!? I don’t care if he used to be the commander of the Second Knight Order—he shouldn’t be sticking his nose into our business!”
“Exactly. If anything, Mirko should’ve been made commander of the First Knight Order. And then I’d be vice-commander.”
“What are you talking about? I’d be vice-commander.”
“You? Even though you’re weaker than me?”
“What’d you say!? You wanna go!?”
“I’d be happy to.”
“Yoti-san, Rick-san, please calm down…!”
As I hurried to placate the two, who were immediately ready to square off, Leo let out a sigh beside me.
“Mirko is also my aide. I can’t place any more burden on him.”
“I wouldn’t mind.”
“…In any case, Sir Oscar isn’t a bad person. He’s very serious and cautious.”
“He definitely feels like a perfectionist.”
It hadn’t been long since Lord Oscar, formerly the commander of the Second Knight Order, had been appointed commander of the First Knight Order.
The Second Knight Order already had a new commander and vice-commander, so it wasn’t as though he could simply return there now.
More than that, Lord Oscar was surely a truly capable knight.
“By the way, Commander Oscar used ice magic on Sibyl-chan.”
“What!?”
“Well, it wasn’t like he attacked her seriously. He was just testing our reaction speed.”
“I see… so that’s what he did. Sibyl-chan, were you hurt?”
“No, I’m fine. Like Yoti-san said, it wasn’t a real attack, and both of them protected me right away.”
Hearing that, Leo finally let out a relieved breath.
“I’ll speak with Sir Oscar again myself. He can be inflexible at times, but he’s earnest and highly capable. I hope you can understand that.”
“…Well, if Your Highness says so.”
“Yeah. I’ll follow Your Highness’s orders too.”
“Thank you, both of you.”
After somehow calming them down and telling them to turn in for the night, only Leo and I remained.
“As expected of you, Leo. You managed to convince those two even when they were so unhappy.”
“Hmm… I just hope they really are convinced.”
Leo gave a wry smile and let out another deep breath.
Yoti and Rick might complain like that, but they clearly acknowledged Lord Oscar’s strength.
Lord Oscar was a very serious man. That much I could tell as well.
When he said they weren’t suited for guard duty, it surely wasn’t because he disliked them—it must have been because he was worried about my safety.
“You and Mirko-san said that you were helped by Lord Oscar in the past, didn’t you?”
“Yeah. When we first joined the knight order, he trained us.”
“I see.”
“He was strict even back then. But thanks to that, I think Mirko and I became stronger.”
I knew it. He was strict, but not a bad person after all.
“If I myself became more dependable, would Lord Oscar feel a little more at ease?”
“Haha. Sibyl-chan, you’re fine just the way you are.”
“But still, maybe I should train a bit more and build some muscle…”
As I said that and bent my arm to show a rather pitiful-looking bicep, Leo laughed and reached out his hand.
“While you’re inside the palace, you’ll be safe. And if anything does happen, I’ll definitely protect you.”
“…Leo.”
Leo touched my cheek and looked at me with such gentle eyes.
To me, even now, he is still my number-one knight.
Cool, strong, utterly reliable—
the most wonderful fiancé in the world.
“Thank you… I’ll do my best to protect you too, Leo.”
“Thank you. Sibyl-chan, you’re very dependable.”
“No, compared to a knight like you, I still have a long way to go.”
Leo pulled me tightly into his arms and affectionately stroked my head.
Right in front of me was his well-built chest…
This is a reward, isn’t it!?
Thinking that, I buried my face without any restraint and rubbed against him again today.
