Chapter 14 – What a Coincidence, I’m Stubborn Too.

By: Mint Summer Breeze ,

Lu Li frowned slightly, looking down at the person who had just fallen on top of him.
“Mu Wanwan, are you trying to murder me?”

Mu Wanwan looked up, letting out an awkward laugh.

Lu Li felt a sharp pain in his ribs. “Aren’t you getting up?”

Flustered, Mu Wanwan scrambled to her feet—but in her nervous haste, she tripped over Lu Li’s long legs and fell right back onto him.

There was a dull thud, followed by what sounded suspiciously like Lu Li’s muffled groan of pain.

“Mu. Wan. Wan!”

Mu Wanwan was on the verge of tears.

She was doomed.

“Uh, total misunderstanding. Slipped—yeah, my foot slipped,” she stammered, trying to explain with a guilty smile.

Lu Li retaliated by pinching her cheek.

Her cheeks were soft and pink, so he pinched again, clearly enjoying himself.

Mu Wanwan glared at him, exasperated. “Enough already! Move your damn paw off me!”

“You’ve got your two hundred pounds crushing me, and you still think you can make demands?” Lu Li shot back coolly.

Every girl hated being teased about her weight—and Mu Wanwan was no exception.

Two hundred pounds?

Pfft.

She wasn’t even half that!

Lu Li’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Are you getting up or not?”

“Nope. What are you gonna do about it? Two hundred pounds like me are rare—you should cherish the experience,” Mu Wanwan said, deliberately pressing her elbow into his arm.

Lu Li: “…”

“What’s going on here?”

The front door opened quietly, and a surprised voice cut through the air.

Mu Hang had just returned from a business trip, and the sight that greeted him as he stepped through the door was… well, suggestive, to say the least.

His first thought: his mischievous little daughter had finally found someone willing to put up with her?
Second thought: poor guy—must have bad eyesight.

“Dad!” Mu Wanwan’s eyes went wide in horror. She leapt off Lu Li like lightning.

“This is a misunderstanding—Dad, let me explain—”

Mu Hang raised a hand to cut her off. “I’ll listen to your explanation later.”

Then he turned his gaze past her—straight to Lu Li.

“I’d like to hear his explanation first.”

Lu Li stood up, straightened his slightly rumpled clothes, and greeted politely, “Hello, Uncle Mu. My name’s Lu Li. I’m Wanwan’s friend.”

Friend?

Mu Hang eyed him suspiciously. “What kind of friend?”

The blunt question almost made Mu Wanwan choke.

She hurried to his side, grabbed his arm, and whispered under her breath, “Dad, just my deskmate, okay? What else could he be? You’ve gotta stop watching so many romance dramas at night. Seriously.”

Mu Hang gave her a sidelong look. “I actually think this young man’s not bad. Handsome. Though, of course, not quite as handsome as me.”

Even while complimenting others, he managed to compliment himself.

Mu Wanwan rolled her eyes.

There was no salvaging this conversation.

Lu Li watched the father and daughter banter, the corners of his lips curling into a faint smile.

Mu Wanwan turned back to him, forcing a grin. “It’s getting late—you should head home. Thanks for today.”

“What thing?” Mu Hang asked, clearly nosy.

Mu Wanwan nearly wanted to tape his mouth shut. “Nothing important. Really.”

Before he could ask more, she grabbed Lu Li’s bag and started pushing him toward the door.

“Why are you rushing him off? Wanwan, your friend came all the way here—it’s dinner time. Let him stay for a meal,” Mu Hang said, stepping forward to stop them. He smiled warmly at Lu Li. “Lu Li, right? Stay and have dinner. See how Uncle Mu’s cooking compares.”

Lu Li glanced at Mu Wanwan, ignoring her frantic winks, and smiled. “Thank you, Uncle Mu. I’d be honored.”

That evening, Mu Hang and Lu Li chatted for quite a while in the living room—mostly about Mu Wanwan.

Later, as Mu Hang drove Lu Li home, he said casually, “Lu Li, Wanwan’s a bit hard-headed. If anything ever happens in the future, please be patient with her, all right?”

His tone was gentle, almost hinting at something deeper.

Lu Li, smart as ever, caught the nuance immediately. He smiled.
“What a coincidence, Uncle Mu. I’m stubborn too.”
