Chapter – 60
I’ll Beat You Every Time I See You
Fu Dong didn’t dare delay and hurried out to contact a doctor.
Huo Zheng’s face darkened. “What’s going on?”
Qiao Le frowned, picked up Mu Wanwan’s slice of cake, scooped a bit and tasted it. Her expression instantly turned cold. “This is bad—it’s mango.”
“Mango? Isn’t this supposed to be pineapple-flavored?” Huo Zheng asked.
Qiao Le didn’t answer. She pushed past Huo Zheng and tasted the other people’s cakes as well. Aside from Fu Dong’s and Mu Wanwan’s, which were mango-flavored, everyone else’s were pineapple.
“Qiao Le, what just happened to Wanwan?” Seeing her silent and grim-faced, Huo Zheng asked anxiously.
“Wanwan has a very severe mango allergy.” With that, Qiao Le hurried out.
Huo Zheng didn’t follow. He stared at the cakes on the table, a glint of contemplation flashing deep in his eyes. Was this a coincidence, or was it deliberate?
“Making such a big deal out of eating a piece of cake—what a pretentious act.” With Lu Li absent, Lu Ziqing grew bolder and complained disdainfully.
An Yao sneered inwardly, but her exquisitely made-up face showed concern. “Ziqing, Wanwan’s had an accident. We should go check on her. Allergies aren’t something to joke about.”
Lu Li put the medicine away and returned to sit by the bed. His cool hand cupped her fair cheek, his thumb gently stroking it.
Hearing this, Qiao Le stopped in her tracks.
Fu Dong slumped his shoulders, looking helpless.
“All right, I know you mean well,” An Yao said gently, patting Lu Ziqing’s hand. “But Wanwan’s in trouble now. We were classmates in high school, after all. No matter what, I should go see her. We can also check if your brother needs any help. Let’s go.”
“Mu Little Dummy, you scared me to death, do you know that?”
Never having been treated like this, Lu Ziqing froze for a moment, then exploded with rage. “Qiao Le, you crazy woman, let go of me!”
Wanwan was still unconscious, and Lu Ziqing was already slandering her. If Qiao Le kept enduring this, she’d turn into a turtle.
Elsewhere—
Lu Li sat by the bed, his deep eyes reflecting the woman’s pale little face. His sharply defined features were tightly drawn.
She brushed his hand away. “Go sit somewhere else, or we won’t even be friends anymore.”
“Wanwan fainted on the way back. My cousin was almost driven mad with worry. He wouldn’t let anyone in except the doctor. You should wait here for now.”
“Where’s my brother?” Lu Ziqing scanned the room and asked.
As they left, the doctor closed the door behind him.
“My brother really is something—why bring Mu Wanwan to his room?” Lu Ziqing sneered sarcastically. “If you ask me, Mu Wanwan is just pretending to be weak to gain my brother’s sympathy.”
She could actually say something like that.
“Wait.”
Fu Dong frowned, surprise flickering in his eyes as he looked at Lu Ziqing. Since when had Ziqing become so sharp-tongued and mean?
“Qiao Le, let’s talk this out,” Fu Dong hurried to smooth things over, stepping in to separate them. He felt Lu Ziqing’s words were indeed excessive, but he couldn’t just let the two of them fight.
“She’s inside keeping Wanwan company,” Fu Dong said.
The large room fell deathly silent.
An Yao quickly supported her. “Ziqing, are you okay?”
After the heated argument, Lu Ziqing’s hair was disheveled and her collar wrinkled. Her face was livid as she lunged at Qiao Le, having lost all reason.
Fu Dong grabbed her. Qiao Le looked at him in confusion. “What is it?”
Even in her sleep, Mu Wanwan’s brows were tightly knit. She looked restless, though the red rashes on her neck and arms were gradually fading.
If anything really happened to Wanwan, Fu Dong didn’t dare imagine what Lu Li might do.
On the way back, Wanwan’s allergic reaction worsened rapidly. She fainted before they even reached the room, scaring Lu Li half to death.
Without confirmation that Wanwan was okay, Qiao Le couldn’t set her mind at ease. “I’m going in to take a look.”
Recalling Lu Li’s bloodshot eyes, Fu Dong felt a little intimidated.
Fu Dong said, “She’s had the injection but hasn’t woken up yet. The doctor just left.”
“How is she?” Qiao Le rushed over, nearly bumping into Fu Dong.
Fu Dong glanced toward the inner room and said gravely, “The doctor just gave her an injection. We’ll have to wait for the doctor’s assessment.”
“Mr. Lu, I’ve written all the precautions on this sheet. Take the medicine on time and the allergic symptoms should subside quickly.”
“Fu Dong, how’s Wanwan?” An Yao and Lu Ziqing came in together. Seeing only Fu Dong and Qiao Le in the living room, An Yao frowned slightly before quickly relaxing her expression.
Lu Ziqing curled her lips and reluctantly stood up.
Qiao Le sprang to her feet and strode straight toward Lu Ziqing.
“I’m already pretty enough, so you should worry about that ugly face of yours first. I really don’t know how Lu Li could be siblings with you. I think you were picked up from a trash can—no wonder your mouth stinks so much.” One hand wasn’t enough; Qiao Le grabbed her collar with both hands, her venomous tongue leaving no chance for a comeback.
At that moment, the doctor came over with a bag of pills.
“Qiao Le, what right do you have to treat me like this? You little brat—if you don’t let go, I’ll make you pay!” Lu Ziqing screamed.
“Lu Ziqing, can you stop opening that sewage-spewing mouth of yours anytime, anywhere? People can smell the stench from ten miles away.” Using her height advantage, Qiao Le clenched her collar and said coldly.
“I’m telling you—if you dare say another bad word about my Wanwan, I’ll beat you every time I see you. Don’t believe me? Try it.”
When women fight, what business do men have interfering?
A hoarse voice murmured softly to itself.
Lu Li stood up and took the medicine, his brows tightly knit. “When will she wake up?”
“I’m not going,” Lu Ziqing said stubbornly. “It’s just an allergy, yet everyone’s making such a fuss.” She put on a look of righteous indignation. “Sister An Yao, you saw how my brother protected her just now. Why do you still care about that Mu Wanwan brat? My brother should have been with you in the first place. It was Mu Wanwan suddenly coming back that ruined everything.”
Qiao Le shot him a glance. “Words are meant for people. Look at her nasty face—how does she resemble a human at all?”
With that, she flung her hand away. Caught off guard, Lu Ziqing staggered backward from the momentum.
The doctor said, “She just had the injection. It’ll probably take two or three hours. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving. If any sudden situation arises, I’ll come back.”
“Qiao Le, this isn’t over between us.”
“Have you caused enough trouble?”
Suddenly, the inner door opened. A voice as cold as ice swept in like a chilling wind.
Quietly telling everyone some good news—there will be more, more, and even more updates tomorrow… Important things must be said three times! La la la. Surprised? Happy?
