Chapter -11
Kill Gu Chengnian
Afternoon class was Child Psychology.
By the time Yu Zhi and the others went in, the back rows of the classroom were already filled.
Yu Zhi casually took a seat somewhere in the front rows.
Behind her, when Pei Nian’an walked in with Gu Chengnian arm-in-arm, she immediately collected a tide of admiring looks. Pei Nian’an didn’t notice; she scanned the classroom and frowned:
There were no seats in the back, but she didn’t want to sit in the very front.
After all, Gu Chengnian had finally come with her to class — how could they flirt openly in front of the teacher by sitting in the front?
She looked around and saw only one empty spot next to a girl near the middle-back aisle.
“Classmate,” Pei Nian’an walked over and pointed to the empty seat, “could we swap seats?”
Gu Chengnian didn’t care what Pei Nian’an was doing. His gaze swept the classroom; he didn’t see that familiar face and felt oddly disappointed.
Standing in front of the empty seat, Pei Nian’an still tried to negotiate. She glanced at Gu Chengnian, a little shy, and said:
“Classmate, please help me out.”
She paused, then reflexively added, “Of course — I can pay you to swap. Tell me how much.”
Hearing that, the girl looked up, embarrassed:
“Sorry, classmate — this seat was saved by my friend, she went to the restroom and will be back soon. Maybe I can talk to her when she returns?”
Pei Nian’an was about to speak when a familiar voice cut in: “We’re not swapping.”
Wen Ying had appeared in the aisle somehow. Looking at Pei Nian’an, her expression was unchanged:
“Excuse me, please move aside. This seat — I’m not switching.”
Pei Nian’an glanced at Gu Chengnian and clenched her fists. She took a deep breath and forced a smile:
“I said I can pay you to swap!”
Wen Ying didn’t reply; she walked around Pei Nian’an and sat in the empty seat, calmly opening her textbook.
Seeing this, Pei Nian’an cursed Wen Ying silently eight hundred times in her head, but she had to keep smiling in front of Gu Chengnian:
“Think about it — don’t you work at a hair salon? You must need money, right? I’ll pay you — you and your friend can split it. Ten thousand — is that enough?”
When she said that, Wen Ying’s face showed some difficulty as she looked up:
“Sorry, classmate — that seat is saved by my friend… ”
But before she could finish, Wen Ying suddenly slapped the desk and stood up:
“Pei Nian’an! What’s wrong with you? Do you think money lets you do whatever you want?”
“We’re not swapping,” she repeated.
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was enough for several rows around them to hear.
The classroom gradually quieted and everyone looked over.
Pei Nian’an was startled by her tone, and then got angry in return:
“Come on, get your facts straight! I’m not forcing you — I’m offering money, what’s wrong with that? Is ten thousand not enough? Twenty, thirty thousand — name your price!”
“Hah!” Wen Ying gave a derisive laugh. “Pei Nian’an! You should get one thing straight too — not everyone wants to be a slave to money.”
Wen Ying stood tall as if she were an arbiter of righteousness.
Gu Chengnian looked at Wen Ying with tenderness in his eyes.
The girl beside Wen Ying tugged her sleeve.
If you change the seat for thirty thousand!
This kind of rare sucker only shows up once in a thousand years!
Split it between us and that’s fifteen thousand each! Who wouldn’t be tempted?
Realizing what her friend was hinting at, Wen Ying instinctively furrowed her brow, met her friend’s eyes, and said slowly and clearly:
“Money is external. She thinks she can buy us with a few tens of thousands — do you think that’s right?”
Her friend flushed and fell silent.
Pei Nian’an smiled when she saw that.
She cocked her head, looked at the girl beside Wen Ying, then back to Wen Ying and said:
“How can you be like this? Thirty thousand is enough for your semester’s living expenses. Your friend is tempted — why do you moralize and guilt others? Is it hard to swap seats? You’re keeping your face while being shameless?!”
Yu Zhi quietly pressed a hand to her forehead.
That was it — the rich young miss spoke without thinking; Wen Ying might be able to take those words, but Gu Chengnian probably wouldn’t.
Sure enough, the next second Gu Chengnian frowned and looked at Pei Nian’an:
“Pei Nian’an! How can you bully your classmate like that?! This is school, not your home! No one should have to put up with you!”
He glanced at Wen Ying and ordered Pei Nian’an:
“Immediately — apologize to her!”
The classroom fell completely silent; everyone watched Pei Nian’an’s reaction.
Right then the teacher walked in for class. Seeing the few students standing there, he cleared his throat and said:
“Class is starting — what are you standing there for? Go find a seat!”
Pei Nian’an glared at Wen Ying without moving; Gu Chengnian’s brows were tightly knitted.
His gaze lingered on Wen Ying for a few seconds, then quickly moved away.
The standoff continued until Gu Chengnian, annoyed, stepped forward, took Wen Ying’s arm, and said to Pei Nian’an:
“You insist on sitting here? Fine, stay where you are.”
Then he turned to Wen Ying, his tone softening:
“Wen, would you mind coming to the front with me?”
Saying that, Gu Chengnian led Wen Ying to a seat in the front row.
Pei Nian’an stared at the two, disbelief in her widened eyes. She grew furious and was about to explode, but Yu Zhi grabbed her.
Yu Zhi smiled at the girl beside her who was already dazed: “Sorry, can I sit here?”
That girl grabbed her books and hurried to the front.
Yu Zhi pressed Pei Nian’an into the seat.
Pei Nian’an glared at Gu Chengnian and Wen Ying in the front row, her nails digging into her palms.
Yu Zhi finally understood what novels meant when they said being near someone gave off a low-pressure atmosphere.
She instinctively rubbed her arms.
Cold — it really was cold.
Sitting down, Pei Nian’an fixed her stare on Wen Ying’s back, then said to Yu Zhi:
“So this is what you meant by asking me to hold back?”
She scoffed, face cold. “No wonder I never liked her. I should have killed that bitch a long time ago.”
As soon as Pei Nian’an finished speaking, a sharp alarm sounded in Yu Zhi’s head from the System:
